Richard Alba is Distinguished Professor Emeritus at the University at Albany where he also directed the Center for Social and Demographic Analysis and the Lewis Mumford Center. Currently he is also Professor of Sociology at the Graduate Center, City University of New York. He is an expert in immigration research, both in the U.S. and Europe, particularly issues related to neighborhood, language, religion, and education. His current work includes detailed analyses of the neighborhood contexts of children in immigrant families in the U.S., as well as comparative work on the children of immigrants and host society educational systems in the U.S. and several European countries. He also does research on race and ethnicity, as reflected in his recent book Blurring the Color Line: The New Chance for a More Integrated America (Harvard, 2009).
