I am trained as a qualitative demographer with a sociological perspective. I have worked on a dozen different research studies using quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods both domestically and internationally: the U.S.-Mexico border, Brazil, India, Uganda, Malawi, Zambia, Nigeria and Rwanda. My substantive areas of expertise include the interchangeability of contraception and abortion, methodological innovations in measuring abortion incidence and morbidity, HIV and fertility, intimate partner violence and reproductive health, sexual and contraceptive negotiation, unintended pregnancy, and abortion decision-making and experiences. My work in the U.S. has focused on under-explored influences on reproductive health and reproductive health decision-making primarily with low-income populations. My international work has focused on adolescents, HIV and unintended pregnancy, abortion care-seeking, HIV and abortion, policymakers’ opinions about abortion, and abortion incidence. Many of the projects I have worked on have required strong partnerships with other institutions both in the US and well as internationally. I have gained the skills to be an effective program manager to make these projects successful: negotiating and adhering to budgets, setting realistic timelines, and maintaining project communication. In sum, my previous experience indicates that I would be able to be an effective and productive contributor as a population scientist at the Center for Social and Demographic Analysis. |
